>> Llanelli win at the Arms Park

By Kenny | 11 April 2010

llanelli earned a super win at the Arms Park yesterday beating Cardiff by 42 - 24 in a game that saw eight tries scored.

In front of a good crowd with some really good support for the visitors and with some lovely weather, the scene was set for a cracking game. It turned out to be just that.

Early on Cardiff scored the first try when scrum half Garin Lucas crossed following good work by wing Jimmy Norris, duly converted by stand in kicker Darren Ryan. Llanelli came back well and within a couple of minutes the scores were level, when full back Jonhnny Lewis chipped ahead to feed centre Nick Reynolds for Llanelli's first try. Steve Shingler converted. Steve added another penalty after 17mins to take the visitors ahead, but Cardiff replied with a catch and drive try close out, prop Cristian Gay getting the final touchdown. Ryan sloted the conversion. Llanelli scored two further tries in the first half, prop Ceri Jones was sent in following some good build up play and an excellent offload by second row Nathan White. Indeed, Nathan then got in on the act himself by crossing at the corner. Both sides added a further penalty goal to end the half - Llanelli 25 - Cardiff 17

The second half saw Steve put over an early penalty goal, but on 54mins flanker Edward Siggery, on permit from Llangennech was yellow carded for a professional foul from which Cardiff scored their third try, this time from replacement scrum half Owen Ruttley - once again coming from a catch & drive lineout closeout. With just four points between the sides going into the final quarter it was game on. In the final ten minutes, Llanelli scored two further tries to secure both the win and a bonus point. Johnny Lewis was on hand to finish a fine threequarter move to cross under the posts, and scrum half Justin James finshed the home side off with the game's eighth try. In the end a worthy win for the Llanelli semi pro's and one that must have pleased the coaching team ahead of the Cup semi final next week.
